Basketball Recap: Olathe Falls Despite Big Games from Elijah Gordon and Isaiah Gordon

If Olathe was feeling good fresh off their 61-31 takedown of West Grand back in December of 2024, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Olathe Pirates fell to the Gunnison Cowboys 61-55. The game was a 27-27 toss-up at halftime, but the Pirates couldn't quite close it out.

Olathe's loss on Saturday came despite strong showings from Isaiah Gordon and Elijah Gordon. Isaiah posted 26 points along with six boards and five assists, while Elijah had 17 points and four steals. The matchup was Isaiah's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Santiago Sanchez, who earned three points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Olathe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Olathe's defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Gunnison, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Olathe will head out to challenge Cedaredge at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Olathe knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Cedaredge likes a good challenge. As for Gunnison, they will challenge Salida at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
