The Jonesville Comets had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They wrapped up 2023 with a 46-28 victory over Reading. For Jonesville, this counts as revenge for the 47-46 loss Reading walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Reading lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aubree Ervans. Despite the final result, she scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Ervans scored a full 53.6% of Reading's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Jonesville has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. As for Reading, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jonesville will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on East Jackson at 7:00 p.m. on January 8th. East Jackson is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak. Reading and Quincy will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Quincy is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
