The Hozho Academy Wolves are taking a road trip to face off against the Rehoboth Christian Lynx at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hozho Academy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last nine games.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Hozho Academy and Non Varsity Opponent meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Wolves put the hurt on Non Varsity Opponent with a sharp 10-2 win. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by eight runs or more this season.
The team relied heavily on Philip Elkins, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Elias Longhat, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rehoboth Christian). They blew past Oak Grove Classical Academy 20-13 on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Lynx as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Jude Christensen was a standout: he got on base in three of his six plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and four RBI. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Rehoboth Christian is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Jonathan Zylstra was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Rehoboth Christian lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Hozho Academy's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Rehoboth Christian, their record is now 7-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Hozho Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rehoboth Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
