Poland extended their winning streak to five on Friday, bumping them up to 10-2-1. They put the hurt on the Gray-New Gloucester Patriots with a sharp 13-3 win. Considering the Knights have won six contests by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Karlee Lothrop made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Phoebe Paradis was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Lenahan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Poland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
As for Gray-New Gloucester, they moved to 5-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
On Gray-New Gloucester's side, Madalyn Patrick was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one run. Destiny Ayers also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Coming up, Poland will venture away from home to square off against North Yarmouth Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Gray-New Gloucester, they will welcome Dirigo at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Patriots' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
