Baseball Recap: Southside's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

If Southside was riding high fresh off their 14-0 takedown of Somerset last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Southside fell 9-4 to the Winn Mavericks on Tuesday. The Cardinals' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Eddie Villazana was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremy Huizar, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Southside's defeat dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Winn, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Southside is set to face off against their familiar foe Southwest Legacy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Winn will challenge rival South San Antonio at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Winn 3.6, South San Antonio 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
