Even though the Sahuarita Mustangs scored an imposing 65 points on Thursday, the Walden Grove Red Wolves still came out on top. Walden Grove snuck past Sahuarita with a 71-65 win. The score was all tied up 35-35 at the break, but Walden Grove was the better team in the second half.
Walden Grove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but MarQuez Tyree led the charge by scoring 31 points. Tyree is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Romney, who scored 21 points.
Sahuarita's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zack Myhre, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Another player making a difference was Gionni Chavarria, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and four blocks.
The victory got Walden Grove back to even at 10-10. As for Sahuarita, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-17.
