University School extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 21-3 in the process. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Mayfield Wildcats. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Preppers also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.
Lucas Clavijo looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Tucker Greer was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayden Zelenak, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
As for Mayfield, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered since April 22nd.
On Mayfield's side, AJ Rogers, Jr was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave Rogers, Jr a new career-low in walks (one).
On the hitting side, Christophe Alexander made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Another player making a difference was JD Sega, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
