Baseball Recap: Eugene Extends Winning Streak to Three

Eugene waltzed into their match on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Pilot Grove Tigers a 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Chase Richard was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jeffrey Schulte, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dalton Mueller, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Eugene's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Pilot Grove, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eugene will face off against Vienna at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Pilot Grove, they will venture away from home to face off against Sturgeon at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
