Basketball Recap: Erik Boyer Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat University

Boone's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They walked away with a 66-55 victory over the University Cougars. The win was all the more spectacular given the Braves' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 241st, while the Cougars are ranked 118th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Boone to victory, but perhaps none more so than Erik Boyer, who went 7 for 8 en route to 17 points and eight assists. What's more, Boyer also racked up four boards, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Connor Summer, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 20 points and five rebounds.

Boyer wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Boone was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's a new trend for Boone: they were averaging 3 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 8.5.

University lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Mo Kamara, who posted 17 points and seven boards. Kamara's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Maurer, who earned 13 points.

Boone has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 7-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points per game. As for University, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-5.

Boone has already played their next contest, a 74-56 loss against Timber Creek on the 10th. As for University, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-47 victory against Lake Nona on the 10th.
