If Northwood was feeling good fresh off their 14-6 takedown of Crean Lutheran last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Northwood Timberwolves took a 14-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Irvine Vaqueros on Thursday. Even though they lost, the Timberwolves' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.7 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Natalie Keith and Marissa Lee stepped up to the plate in a big way. Keith got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Lee scored four runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-5. That's the most RBI Keith has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jessie Wendt, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one double.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Northwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.
Northwood dropped their record down to 2-4 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Irvine, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northwood will head out to square off against Foothill at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Irvine, they will take on Palos Verdes in a tournament on Saturday.
