North Wilkes extended the longest winning streak in 2A/1A Conference 6 this week by beating Starmount, 13-10. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
North Wilkes and the Rams played the closest game in the league this week, with North Wilkes eventually emerging with a 13-10 victory.
Starmount's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Zach Freed threw for 62 yards and John Johnson had 23 yards receiving. On the ground Freed chipped in 82 yards. Gunner Cass helped Starmount's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 11 yards.
Scott Johnson's team's dynamic duo of Freed and Johnson proved to be unstoppable against Monty Chipman's team, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Cass helped Starmount's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 11 yards.
The Vikings' LJ Hendren and Josh Bare have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Hendren has thrown for 1,588 yards this season, while Bare has 30 catches for 746 yards. The Rams' Will Simpson leads the league in rushing yards with 620.
Two of the top teams in 2A/1A Conference 6 will go toe-to-toe this week when North Wilkes takes on Ashe County. The Vikings' offense has scored 210 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Huskies have allowed only 149 on the year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when North Wilkes takes on Ashe County. The Vikings are currently in first, while Brian Hampton's team is in fourth.
East Wilkes lost to the Huskies 39-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
