The Amundsen Vikings suffered their biggest loss since December 26, 2023 on Saturday. Their rough 67-41 defeat to Trinity might stick with them for a while. Amundsen was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-13.
Amundsen's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hannah Lopez, who scored eight points along with six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Valdez, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Amundsen bumped their record down to 9-14 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.2 points per game. As for Trinity, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Amundsen will take on Lane Tech at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Lane Tech focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday. As for Trinity, they will be playing at home against Fenwick at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fenwick will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while Trinity is ranked 118th).
