The Moriarty Pintos will take on the Pojoaque Valley Elks/Elkettes at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Moriarty has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Wednesday, Moriarty needed a bit of extra time to put away Espanola Valley. They skirted past the Sundevils 18-17. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pintos have posted against the Sundevils since April 26, 2023.
The team relied heavily on Raiden Scribner, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Evan Pacheco, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Moriarty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Pojoaque Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 12-2 to Taos. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Elks/Elkettes couldn't push the score so high this time.
Pojoaque Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Noah Torres, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Andres Trevizo was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Moriarty has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Pojoaque Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 6-18.
Everything went Moriarty's way against Pojoaque Valley in their previous matchup back in April, as Moriarty made off with a 20-8 win. Will the Pintos repeat their success, or do the Elks/Elkettes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
