Clewiston is a perfect 7-0 against Pahokee since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Tigers will look to defend their home field against the Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. Clewiston is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
On Friday, Clewiston needed a bit of extra time to put away Avon Park. They skirted past the Red Devils 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since March 5th.
Clewiston's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Braylin Herrera, who went 2-for-4 with one double.
Meanwhile, Pahokee earned a 9-4 win over Inlet Grove on Tuesday.
Isaac Sarmiento made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Pahokee let Tiyler Rothstein and Markevious Perry run wild. Rothstein got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs, while Perry went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. The dominant performance also gave Rothstein a new career-high in hits (two). Another player making a difference was Cornelious Young, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Pahokee always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Inlet Grove only posted an OBP of .424.
Pahokee's victory bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Clewiston, their win bumped their record up to 10-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Clewiston has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Pahokee struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 12.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Clewiston got the 'W' when the teams last played last Tuesday against Pahokee by a conclusive 11-0 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
