Basketball Recap: St. John Paul II Academy Skates Past Jupiter Christian with Ease

With a playoff win on the line, St. John Paul II Academy rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They blew past the Jupiter Christian Eagles, posting a 77-36 victory. Given St. John Paul II Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Jupiter Christian is ranked 568th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. John Paul II Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ian Astiazarain out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten steals. Those ten steals gave Astiazarain a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Mesa, who went 9 for 15 en route to 21 points and four steals.

St. John Paul II Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jupiter Christian only pulled down seven offensive boards.

Jupiter Christian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jake Becker, who posted nine points, and Jordan Rivera, who had ten points.

St. John Paul II Academy is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 16-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.1 points per game. As for Jupiter Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.

As of now, neither St. John Paul II Academy nor Jupiter Christian have any future games scheduled.
