Softball Recap: Morristown Has No Trouble Against Irvington Preparatory Academy

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against North Decatur, Morristown was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 19-6 margin over Irvington Preparatory Academy. With that win, the Yellow Jackets brought their scoring average up to 9 runs per game.

Abby Hawk made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Nevaeh Cox and Mykynzy Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Cox went 5-for-6 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles, while Smith scored five runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5. That's the most runs Cox has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ayvah Weir, who scored a run while going 2-for-5.

Morristown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .442. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Irvington Preparatory Academy only posted a batting average of .231.

The victory got Morristown back to even at 2-2. As for Irvington Preparatory Academy, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Morristown will take on Knightstown at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Irvington Preparatory Academy, they will square off against Mooresville Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Irvington Preparatory Academy are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
