The Winterboro Bulldogs pushed their score all the way to 59 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Glencoe by a score of 61-59. Winterboro has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.
Despite the defeat, Winterboro saw an underclassman step up: Katelyn Brown dropped a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. Brown has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Kailynn Williams was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 13 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Winterboro were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glencoe only posted six assists.
Glencoe's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kinlee Montgomery, who scored 27 points along with six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Montgomery has scored at least a third of Glencoe's points. Another player making a difference was Alli Jo Amos, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Winterboro's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-6. As for Glencoe, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 19-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winterboro will take on the Silent Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Alabama School for the Deaf will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 609th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 170th). As for Glencoe, they will be playing at home against the Indians at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Ohatchee is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
