The Omaha North Vikings's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Omaha South Packers at 7:15 p.m. on February 6th. One thing working in Omaha North's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last nine games.
Omaha North scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They strolled past Columbus with points to spare, taking the game 78-63. Given Omaha North's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Discoverers are ranked 210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Omaha North found their leader in underclassman Jerri'on Williams, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Mynor Strong, who scored 16 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Omaha South pushed their score all the way to 61 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 62-61 to Columbus.
The losing side was boosted by Lou Hodoly, who scored 26 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. That was a full 42.6% of Omaha South's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Keegan Kimble, who scored 16 points along with five assists and two steals.
Omaha North pushed their record up to 14-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.6 points per game. As for Omaha South, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.
Tuesday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Omaha North have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 48.3% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Omaha South struggles in that department as they've made 40% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Omaha North against the Packers when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the squad secured a 66-23 victory. With Omaha North ahead 35-15 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
