The Ingomar Falcons will challenge the Falkner Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Ingomar has given up an average of 10.9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Ingomar is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight games on Thursday. They lost 17-3 to Tupelo Christian Prep.
Ingomar saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Ball, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Falkner got the win against Thrasher on Friday by a conclusive 15-1. Considering the Eagles have won ten matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Nolan Ashley made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Falkner's success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 8-9 when he doesn't). Ashley was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anthony Morgan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Graydon Newby, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
Falkner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Thrasher only posted an OBP of .143.
Falkner has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Ingomar, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Ingomar has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .455. However, it's not like Falkner struggles in that department as they've averaged .463. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ingomar suffered a grim 15-5 defeat to Falkner when the teams last played back in March. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
