Basketball Recap: Apollo Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Eliijah White and Cristian Acevedo

Apollo was the 64-42 winner over Boulder Creek when they last played one another back in December of 2015, but their luck changed this time around. The Apollo Hawks came up short against the Boulder Creek Jaguars on Tuesday, falling 70-44. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while the Jaguars are ranked second).

Apollo's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Cristian Acevedo, who went 6 of 8 en route to 20 points and six boards, and Eliijah White, who posted nine points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. That's the most points Acevedo has posted since back in November of 2024. Joe Sumpter was another key player, putting up two points.

Boulder Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Andrew Bhesania led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds. Bhesania has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Mick Riordan, who went 8 for 9 on his way to 19 points.

Apollo has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season. As for Boulder Creek, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-4.

Apollo didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-48 loss against West Point on the 17th. As for Boulder Creek, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 76-55 win against O'Connor on the 17th.
