The Murphysboro Red Devils are taking a road trip to face off against the Chester Yellowjackets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Murphysboro will be strutting in after a victory while Chester will be coming in after a defeat.
Murphysboro came out on top against Benton on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Red Devils took their matchup against the Rangers 5-2. The win was some much needed relief for the Red Devils as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Blaire Fox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, Murphysboro's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Macey Alexander, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Ashlyn Campebell was another, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Murphysboro hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Benton struck out 14 times.
Meanwhile, Chester didn't have quite enough to beat Trico on Saturday and fell 18-17. Even though they lost, the Yellowjackets' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.4 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Camryn Wolff was cooking despite her team's loss, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Maggie Caby, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four RBI, one run, and one double.
This is the second loss in a row for Chester and nudges their season record down to 11-11. Even worse, they were so close both times: the losses came by an average of only one runs. As for Murphysboro, their win bumped their record up to 11-15.
Everything went Murphysboro's way against Chester in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, as Murphysboro made off with a 7-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
