The Greenon Knights are taking a road trip to square off against the Cedarville Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Greenon is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.
On Saturday, Greenon came up short against Franklin Monroe and fell 11-7.
Carson Fields was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Eli Paulus was another key player, earning one run and three stolen bases.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cedarville). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Catholic Central an 18-0 shutout on Friday. With that win, the Indians brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.
Xavier Pauling made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Pauling was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Cedarville got a massive performance out of Zach Creeden, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jacob Lide, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Cedarville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Cedarville has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Greenon, their loss dropped their record down to 4-17.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Greenon has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cedarville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
