Basketball Recap: Great Crossing Wins Going Away Against Windermere Prep

Great Crossing had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 25-point drubbing they dealt Windermere Prep on Friday. Great Crossing ended the year with a bang, routing the Windermere Prep Lakers 74-49. Given Great Crossing's advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked fourth in Kentucky, while Windermere Prep is ranked 118th in Florida), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Great Crossing had a senior duo take command as Vince Dawson shot 4-for-4 from beyond the arc and almost dropped a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds and Malachi Moreno dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. The matchup was Dawson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Junius Burrell, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points.

Great Crossing smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Windermere Prep only pulled down three offensive boards.

When it comes to explaining why Windermere Prep lost, don't look at Brandon Bass Jr.. Despite the final result, he posted 24 points and three steals. Bass Jr. is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Shoptaw, who had eight points along with eight boards and six assists.

Great Crossing's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Windermere Prep, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season.

Great Crossing didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-61 loss against St. John's on the 28th. As for Windermere Prep, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 50-35 victory against Myrtle Beach on the 28th.
