The Wilton Warriors will square off against the Danbury Hatters at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wilton 2.9, Danbury 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Wilton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Trumbull, who was ranked 12th at the time (Wilton was ranked 21st). The Warriors never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory on Saturday. While the Warriors didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Danbury). They were the clear victors by a 26-4 margin over McMahon on Friday. With that win, the Hatters brought their scoring average up to 6.9 runs per game.
Jacqueline Marks made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Sophie O'Connell was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since April 1st. Another player making a difference was T'Aira Walters, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Danbury always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .689. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory (which was Danbury's third in a row) raised their record to 8-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Wilton, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
