Swain County suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after besting Cherokee. The Maroon Devils had been ranked 23rd, but fell to 30 following the defeat.
Swain County extended the longest winning streak in 1A Smoky Mountain this week by beating the Braves, 61-8. The victory was the eighth in a row for Neil Blankenship's team.
Swain County's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Maroon Devils feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Ray Smith has thrown for 1250 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, while Greg Tisho has 31 catches for 767 yards. Garrett Lane leads the league in rushing with 580 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Hayesville takes on Robbinsville. At the moment, the Yellowjackets are in fourth, while the Black Knights are in third.
The Maroon Devils took down Cherokee 61-8 last week, the largest margin of any game.
