The Gloucester County Christian Conquerors are taking a road trip to challenge the King's Christian Knights at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Gloucester County Christian has given up an average of 10.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Gloucester County Christian couldn't beat Calvary Academy on Tuesday even though they stacked five runs on them in the second inning. The Conquerors came up short against the Warrior, falling 15-9. The Conquerors haven't had much luck with the Warrior recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Sam Turing made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Reese Wentz also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, King's Christian hadn't done well against Atlantic Christian recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Knights sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Cougars.
Bridget Levandoski made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, King's Christian got a big performance out of Kenleigh Welsh, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs. Vivian Galvis was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
King's Christian's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Gloucester County Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.
Gloucester County Christian couldn't quite get it done against King's Christian in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 9-6. Can the Conquerors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
