This season hasn't been kind to the Southwestern Spartans, who are still winless after their 18th matchup. They took a serious blow against North Decatur on Thursday, falling 59-15. While losing is never fun, Southwestern can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 407th, while North Decatur is ranked 111th).
Leading North Decatur to victory were Ella Kunz and Madi Allen. Kunz scored 20 points, while Allen scored 21 points. Kunz hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Sydney Rohls, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Southwestern bumped their record down to 0-18 with that loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.5 points per game. As for North Decatur, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-6.
Southwestern won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Jac-Cen-Del at 7:30 p.m. on January 12th. Hopefully Jac-Cen-Del focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Wednesday. As for North Decatur, they will head out on the road to face off against Milan at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Milan is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
