The Gibson Southern Titans had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They blew past Washington, posting a 48-14 win on the road. Given Gibson Southern's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Washington is ranked 228th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gibson Southern was led to victory by Sean DeLong and Tanner Boyd. DeLong gained 96 total yards and three touchdowns, while Boyd threw for 146 yards and three touchdowns. Mason Scheller got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Washington to a paltry 168 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Gibson Southern's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out four times before it was all said and done. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Brody Klem.
Gibson Southern's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-2. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 37 points. As for Washington, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Gibson Southern will look to defend their home field on Friday against Vincennes Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. Vincennes Lincoln is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Washington does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
