Riverside is a perfect 8-0 against Austin since February of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Rangers will welcome the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Riverside's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Bowie 15-0. The victory was nothing new for the Rangers as they're now sitting on five straight.
Zoey Quintana was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Quintana was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, Julie Muniz was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Mandy Contreras, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Riverside hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Austin came into Tuesday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Irvin on Tuesday as they made off with a 19-5 win.
Like Riverside, Austin also got a great game from a two-way player: Ruby Salazar. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Salazar has posted since back in February. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Ayumi Ruben was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. That hit was her first of the season. Aileen Montero was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Riverside pushed their record up to 18-12 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Austin, their victory bumped their record up to 10-15.
Austin's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Riverside hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .448. It's a different story for Austin, though, as they've only averaged .244. Will they be able to contain Riverside's hitters?
Riverside took their win against Austin when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Rangers repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
