The Encinal Jets''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They suffered a rough 21-0 loss at the hands of Irvington. Encinal was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Irvington apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2016.
Irvington's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matthew Forbes, who rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Forbes is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jacob Santos, who gained 118 total yards and a touchdown.
Encinal's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-2 Alameda and 6-2 Redwood (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 68.8% over those games). As for Irvington, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Encinal will head out on the road to face off against Washington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Irvington, they will look to defend their home field on October 28th against Hayward at 7:00 p.m. Hayward presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Irvington in California (Hayward is ranked 414th, while Irvington is ranked 905th).
