The Menendez Falcons won the last time they faced the ED White Commanders, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Menendez strolled past ED White with points to spare, taking the game 50-33. Given Menendez's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while ED White is ranked 352nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Menendez to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jakayla Newsome, who scored 16 points. Newsome is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Scibelli, who scored 9 points along with 9 rebounds and 6 assists.
When it comes to explaining why ED White lost, one person who can't be blamed is Leandrea McCloud. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 10 points and 21 rebounds. McCloud scored a full 30.3% of ED White's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Alaysha Williams, who scored 8 points along with 6 steals.
Menendez now has a winning record of 2-1. As for ED White, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Menendez will face off against St. Augustine at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for ED White, they will head out on the road to face off against Riverside at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
