The South Oak Cliff Bears are on the road again on Saturday and play against the Port Neches-Groves Indians at 11:00 a.m. on December 16th. South Oak Cliff has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 546 points over their last 12 games.
South Oak Cliff had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 36-24 win over Emerson last Friday. Given South Oak Cliff's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Emerson is ranked 61st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Oak Cliff can attribute much of their success to Danny Green jr, who rushed for 162 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries. Green jr has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last four times he's played.
Meanwhile, Port Neches-Groves had already won 13 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.5 points), and they went ahead and made it 14 last Friday. They came out on top against Liberty Hill by a score of 42-35. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Port Neches-Groves to victory, but perhaps none more so than Blair Chatagnier, who rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. London Nunley also helped with two touchdowns in total.
South Oak Cliff's victory bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Port Neches-Groves, their victory bumped their record up to 14-1.
South Oak Cliff beat Port Neches-Groves 34-24 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Will South Oak Cliff repeat their success, or does Port Neches-Groves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
