Wellington is a perfect 7-0 against Clearview since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Dukes will be playing in front of their home fans against the Clippers at 5:00 p.m. Wellington is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
Wellington came up short against Brookside on Monday, falling 8-2. That's two games in a row now that the Dukes have lost by exactly six runs.
Gabe Toth made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Johnnie Kinter also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Clearview had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They put the hurt on Oberlin with a sharp 13-6 win on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Clippers, who have now won three contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Sean Mettler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered six earned runs on eight hits and racked up 14 Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Clearview is 3-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 0-5 otherwise.
At the plate, Clearview got a massive performance out of Jahmir Sims, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Sims is becoming a predictor of the Clippers' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 1-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Nathan Bristor, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Clearview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Wellington's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Clearview, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Wellington has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Clearview struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Wellington came out on top in a nail-biter against Clearview in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. Do the Dukes have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Clippers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
