Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Tamalpais Red Tailed Hawks walked away with it. They secured a 34-28 W over Casa Grande on Friday. Winning may never get old, but Tamalpais sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Tamalpais was led to victory by Andrew Gordon and Braden Young. Gordon picked up 196 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Young threw for 339 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 11.7 yards per attempt. Gordon's longest reception was for an incredible 70 yards. Lachlan Hindley also helped out as he racked up 102 receiving yards.
When it comes to explaining why Casa Grande lost, one person who can't be blamed is Danny Mercado. Despite the final result, he rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 203 yards and a touchdown. Camden Bushey got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Tamalpais is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. As for Casa Grande, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 9-2.
Tamalpais will head out on the road to face off against Marin Catholic at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Casa Grande does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
