The BASIS Phoenix Firebirds's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their ninth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 59-13 loss at the hands of Santa Cruz Valley. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points BASIS Phoenix has scored all season.
Leading Santa Cruz Valley to victory were Ezekiel Perez and Nathan Harris. Perez scored 13 points along with nine steals and six rebounds, while Harris dropped a double-double on 16 points and 21 rebounds. The game was Perez's third in a row with at least ten points. Estevan Guillen-Xavier was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
BASIS Phoenix bumped their record down to 1-9 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.0 points per game. As for Santa Cruz Valley, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4.
BASIS Phoenix will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Desert Heights Prep at 5:00 p.m. on January 8, 2024. Santa Cruz Valley and Cicero Prep Academy will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
