The Cheyenne Desert Shields will take on the Desert Pines Jaguars at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cheyenne is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
Last Thursday, Cheyenne earned a 7-3 victory over Cimarron-Memorial.
Raider Campos spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cheyenne let Tapa Gamoras and Adrian Catalan run wild. Gamoras scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while Catalan went 1-for-4 with one home run. Gamoras also launched a home run, marking his first of the season. Caleb Pimentel was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Cheyenne was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cimarron-Memorial only posted a batting average of .214.
Meanwhile, Desert Pines was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against Western, falling 7-1.
Kevin Ruiz Guzman was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Cheyenne's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Desert Pines, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6-1.
Desert Pines' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cheyenne hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .402. It's a different story for Desert Pines, though, as they've only averaged .242. Will they be able to contain Cheyenne's hitters?
Cheyenne came out on top in a nail-biter against Desert Pines in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 8-7. Does Cheyenne have another victory up their sleeve, or will Desert Pines turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
