On Saturday, the Rock Canyon Jaguars faced the Denver East Angels in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Rock Canyon fell 70-62 to Denver East. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Friday (57), Rock Canyon still had to take the loss.
Rock Canyon's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooke Harding, who scored 14 points along with 6 assists and 6 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Feiman, who scored 10 points.
Denver East found their leader in underclassman Mairead Hearty, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 17 rebounds. Hearty is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jennesse Byrd, who scored 12 points along with 6 assists and 5 rebounds.
Rock Canyon's defeat dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Denver East, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rock Canyon has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Bear Creek at 7:00 p.m. on December 5th. Hopefully Bear Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven last Monday. As for Denver East, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Northfield at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Northfield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
