Basketball Game Preview: Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators vs. Broadwater Academy Vikings

Greenbrier Christian Academy and Broadwater Academy are an even 4-4 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators will venture away from home to take on the Broadwater Academy Vikings at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Greenbrier Christian Academy is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest loss since December 2, 2023 on Thursday. They took a blow against Hickory, falling 68-22. The contest marked the Gators' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Greenbrier Christian Academy had strong showings from Livia Smith, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards, and Katelyn Balka, who posted no points and seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Broadwater Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were one points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-52 heartbreaker at the hands of Hampton Christian Academy.

Greenbrier Christian Academy will need focus on slowing down Kacey Ford, one of several Broadwater Academy players who made an impact when they last played. She went 7 of 12 on her way to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Miranda Smith, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 12 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Greenbrier Christian Academy and nudges their season record down to 4-3. As for Broadwater Academy, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Greenbrier Christian Academy came up short against Broadwater Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 50-44. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Broadwater Academy's Leah Smith, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 boards.
