The Zion-Benton Zee-Bees suffered their biggest loss since November 16, 2023 on Tuesday. They took a serious blow against Libertyville, falling 66-16. Zion-Benton was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 46-7.
Zion-Benton's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Baakir Christian, who scored seven points along with three steals and two blocks, and Kennilyn Alexander who scored seven points. That's the first time this season that Christian posted two or more blocks.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Zion-Benton struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They are winless (0-4) when they can't control their own glass like that.
Zion-Benton has not been sharp recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season. As for Libertyville, the win was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Zion-Benton's road trip will continue as they head out to face Warren Township at 5:30 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Warren Township focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Friday. As for Libertyville, they will head out on the road to face off against Stevenson at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Stevenson is on a five-game streak of home wins, Libertyville a nine-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
