The Monte Vista Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 30 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Soroco 58-28 on the road. With that win, Monte Vista brought their scoring average up to 51 points per game.
Among those leading the charge was Daylin Castro, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those three steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Allessah Archuleta, who scored ten points along with three steals.
Monte Vista's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Soroco, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monte Vista is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Bayfield at 5:30 p.m. on December 19th. Bayfield's defense has only allowed 29.5 points per game this season, so Monte Vista's offense will have their work cut out for Monte Vista. Soroco will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Basalt at 1:00 p.m. on January 5, 2024. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Basalt is ranked 292nd, while Soroco is ranked 289th).
