The Cross Roads Bobcats will face off against the Mildred Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cross Roads has given up an average of 9.3 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Cross Roads' offense. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (13-0), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Mildred had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They never let the Flyers get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. Considering the Eagles have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Braydon Spurlock and Layton Atkeisson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Spurlock pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Atkeisson struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Spurlock has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Spurlock went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Atkeisson went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Atkeisson has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Mildred let Charlie Judson and Noah Garcia run wild. Judson went 4-for-5 with five stolen bases and four runs, while Garcia went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those five stolen bases gave Judson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Mckendree, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Mildred always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as LaPoynor only posted an OBP of .062.
Mildred's win bumped their record up to 12-2. As for Cross Roads, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-6.
Cross Roads suffered a grim 7-0 defeat to Mildred when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Bobcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
