After flying high against the Eagle Ridge Academy Warriors last Tuesday, the Kent Denver Sun Devils came back down to earth. Kent Denver fell to Peak to Peak 40-34. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Kent Denver has scored all season.
Kent Denver's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Claire Murphy, who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Duncan, who scored seven points along with 11 rebounds and four steals.
Even though they lost, Kent Denver smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Peak to Peak only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Leading Peak to Peak to victory were Megan Wagner and Alexandra Eschmeyer. Wagner scored 15 points along with six rebounds and four blocks, while Eschmeyer dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Eschmeyer has scored at least a third of Peak to Peak's points.
Kent Denver's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-2. As for Peak to Peak, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home.
Kent Denver will take on Prospect Ridge Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Prospect Ridge Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 268th, while Kent Denver is ranked 59th). As for Peak to Peak, they will head out on the road to challenge Colorado Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Colorado Academy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.1 points per game.
