Mountain Heritage came tearing into Friday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.3 points), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Draughn Wildcats as they made off with a 75-49 victory. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Wildcats are ranked 285th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mountain Heritage's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lilly Neill, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 14 boards. Another player making a difference was Layla Worley, who went 7-for-11 on her way to 19 points and six assists.

Mountain Heritage's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.4 points over those games. As for Draughn, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-11.

Looking ahead, Mountain Heritage will be taking part in a tournament against NCSSM: Morganton at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Mountain Heritage is facing NCSSM: Morganton at the right time seeing as NCSSM: Morganton is stuck on a 19-game losing streak. As for Draughn, they will take on Madison at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
