The Moody Blue Devils will take on the Horseshoe Bend Generals in a tournament on Friday. Moody is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.
Moody is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alabama's top teams: Hewitt-Trussville, who was ranked 11th at the time (Moody was ranked 18th). The Blue Devils walked away with a 9-6 victory over the Huskies on Wednesday. Surprisingly, this marked the Blue Devils' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Taylor Rogers was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Zoey Terry, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Horseshoe Bend has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 2.54 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They came up short against Reeltown, falling 17-8. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Marigrace Jones made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Caralina Tidwell, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Moody pushed their record up to 28-8 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Horseshoe Bend, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-5-1.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Moody hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .377. However, it's not like Horseshoe Bend struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
