Howland is a perfect 4-0 against Poland Seminary since August of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Howland came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Austintown-Fitch, falling 3-0.
While Howland was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. The final score came out to 25-12, 29-27, 25-14.
Meanwhile, Poland Seminary didn't have quite enough to beat Springfield on Monday and fell 3-2. While the Bulldogs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Tigers 25-21 in the first set.
Poland Seminary started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 15-11.
Howland will need to focus on slowing down Avery Jakubovic, one of several Poland Seminary players who made an impact when they last played. She had 17 digs and two assists. Jakubovic has been hot recently, having posted ten or more digs the last three times she's played. Makenna Saville was another key player, getting 15 assists and 11 digs.
Howland dropped their record down to 11-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Poland Seminary, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
Howland took their victory against Poland Seminary in their previous matchup back in September of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
