Avenal has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Coalinga Horned Toads at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Avenal has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Avenal ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They snuck past Dos Palos with a 50-45 victory.
Meanwhile, Coalinga didn't have too much trouble with Liberty at home on Thursday as they won 65-47. Given Coalinga's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 583rd, while Liberty is ranked 1210th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Avenal's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-12. As for Coalinga, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.
Avenal ended up a good deal behind Coalinga in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, losing 64-47. Can Avenal avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
