Baseball Recap: Newport Has No Trouble Against Line Mountain

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Newport and Line Mountain meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. Newport put the hurt on Line Mountain with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Buffaloes haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Landon Zaring was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Zaring was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jameson Cummins, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Jameson Peters also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Newport's record now sits at 3-1. As for Line Mountain, their defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.
