Cheyenne has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Somerset Academy Losee Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cheyenne will be strutting in after a victory while Somerset Academy Losee will be coming in after a defeat.
Cheyenne scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 70-22 victory over Eldorado at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-10.
Cheyenne's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Tariyh Turner, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds, and Nita Franklin, who scored 18 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Turner scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Ananda Jackson, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Meanwhile, Somerset Academy Losee unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Legacy by a score of 66-64. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
The losing side was boosted by Key Thrower, who scored 27 points along with six steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Akaylah Thrower, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Cheyenne has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season. As for Somerset Academy Losee, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-6.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Cheyenne have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 30 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Somerset Academy Losee, though, as they've been averaging only 26.3 rebounds per game. Given Cheyenne's sizeable advantage in that area, Somerset Academy Losee will need to find a way to close that gap.
Cheyenne came out on top in a nail-biter against Somerset Academy Losee in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, sneaking past 34-32. Will Cheyenne repeat their success, or does Somerset Academy Losee have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
