Springport is 2-8 against Concord since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Springport Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Concord Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. Springport has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 182 points over their last three matchups.
Springport pushed their score all the way to 56 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 63-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bronson. Springport has not had much luck with Bronson recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Tucker Wiginton, who scored 18 points. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braydon Hawes, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Concord was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap last Saturday as they fell 54-48 to Gull Lake. It was the first time this season that Concord let down their fans at home.
Despite the defeat, Concord got a solid performance out of Mekhi Wingfield, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 50% of Concord's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jordan Medellin, who scored ten points.
Springport's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3. As for Concord, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-4.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Springport hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 51.4 points per game. However, it's not like Concord struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 57.6 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Springport took a serious blow against Concord when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 71-37. Thankfully for Springport, Anthony Evans (who scored 25 points along with six assists and two steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
