Yuka Matsuzawa, a sophomore middle blocker for Keio High School, has been named the first MaxPreps/AVCA New York High School volleyball Player of the Week. Matsuzawa earned the distinction after helping her Unicorns to a 10-1 record to date, including eight consecutive victories.
She chalked up 26 kills in five games played last week, to go along with seven assists and three service aces. More impressive was Matsuzawa's defensive effort, as she shut down her opponents at the net with 23 blocks and also dug up 13 balls.
Keio is coached by Cynthia Leite.
